Therapy Tails 1 – Foundations is a specialized therapy dog training class in Calgary that has been created to support dog owners in developing the manners, obedience and emotional regulation skills to lay a solid foundation on their path to becoming a therapy dog team. This program is the first of 3 levels in our comprehensive Therapy Dog Program. This program is also suitable for those considering training their dogs as service dogs under the owner-trained service dog provision through the Alberta Service Dog Act or for those who are wanting to train their dogs as emotional support dogs.
During this 8-week learning journey, you will learn how to create a clear communication system with your dog which will form the basis for all of your work together going forward. You will learn a robust set of manners and obedience skills to ensure that all of the foundational pieces are in place for the journey that lies ahead. You will learn how to help your dog manage their emotions and will learn essential manners. Dog and owner teams who successfully complete this course will be invited to register in Therapy Tails 2 – Working Skills. Vaccinations
To attend classes, dogs must be fully vaccinated or have completed titre testing (uploaded at point of registration).
